The word “classic” is defined as “judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind”. That’s exactly what Classical Music is. These are the great musical compositions written anywhere from the Renaissance period up through the beginning of the 20th century, which are still recognized and performed today. For those knowledgeable in music history, yes, I know that the Classical period is officially defined as 1730-1820. I use the term Classical Music more loosely, to also include music from the Romantic, Baroque, and Renaissance periods.

As with other sections, the songs that I selected to play on the xylophone and record on video are by no means representative of the history of Western music, or of any composer’s life work. These are simply a small selection of songs that I felt had recognizable melodies, which would come out when played on the xylophone.
